Portico achieves Silver Status Investors in People

The Portico team is proud to announce that we have been awarded the Investors in People (IiP) silver award, making us one of just 148 out of approximately 38,000 UK organisations to receive the accolade. Gaining IiP silver status places Portico in the top 0.4 per cent of these companies.

IiP’s silver and gold accreditations are reserved for companies that have achieved above and beyond the basic IiP standard’s 39 requirements. To gain silver accreditation, Portico met 97 additional evidence indicators. The national award, which recognises best practice in business planning, management and training, unveiled this new framework and a more flexible approach to the standard to provide improved support to employers during the economic downturn.

“We are delighted to have successfully attained the IiP silver award,” said Greg Mace, Portico's Managing Director. “It formally recognises the fact that we believe in and have a clear strategy for learning and development of our 370 members of staff. As a company, we plan people’s career progression and provide them with the support and training they need to continuously improve. In the run up to gaining silver status, we also ran a series of workshops that gave our teams across the business an opportunity to share their ideas, questions, thoughts and actions for Portico as a business. This was aligned to our overall business plan and ensured that the IiP values were cemented into our business practice”

As well as demonstrating that its people could learn and develop effectively within the organisation, Portico also had to prove that:

• Its strategy for improving the performance of the organisation is clearly defined and understood
• That its primary goals were aligned across the business through its people
• Managers could lead their teams effectively and continuously improve
• People’s contribution to the company is valued and recognised

To ensure that Portico continues to improve during 2010 and beyond, the team intends to work towards the requirements that it needs to gain gold recognition.
